4/11/2015 - Introducing Simendo Next

We are proud to announce that the new Simendo Next software will be launched in January 2016.

The Simendo Next software is developed with the newest technologies that are available in the video game industry. This offers many advantages for both our users and our development team.

You will experience excellent graphical performance and frequent new developments in the future. In our humble opinion this will be the best laparoscopic basic skills training package in the world, where the gap between reality and virtual reality has almost vanished.

Initially we will release a new version of the novice and intermediate curricula, in a way that ensures that you can keep using both the old and the new versions in your educational program. As a follow up we will periodically release curricula with new challenges.

Due to the launch of the new software the annual Simendo skills competition will be postponed until a later date in 2016.

30/01/2013 - Simendo competition winner interview, statistics and top 10

Winner of the Simendo Skills Competition 2012: Kemal Dogan, Rijnstate hospital in Arnhem (the Netherlands), surgery division.

On the 14th of January, Kemal Dogan received the Simendo Skills Competition cup trophy and gold medal in the presence of his colleagues.

This is what Kemal had to say about his achievement: "The competition exercise was challenging with a few bottlenecks that had to be overcome, like tilting plateaus and the time limit. To get the best result I've figured out a technique: 1. pick up the spheres at the top, 2. work with both instruments simultaneously, 3. alternate between plateaus, 4. work from the back of the plateau to the front of the plateau."

The 2nd place goes to Dustin Goei of the surgery division at Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis in Delft (the Netherlands). He wins the silver medal.

The 3rd place, and winner of the bronze medal, is Maarten Nijkamp of the Diakonessenhuis surgery division in Utrecht (the Netherlands).

Dr. Leonie Speksnijder of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) is the best gynaecologist. She ended in 5th place in the final ranking.

A couple statistics:
Competition duration: 60 days
Number of competing hospitals: 22
Number of participants: 70
Total number of scores: 4744
Total hours spent competing: 79

Our analysis shows that Kemal has won the competition because he made optimal use of both instruments. Striking is the fact that the blue (left hand) and the red line (right hand) practically coincide, this indicates that he moved both instruments equally. In the end Kemal won the competition because he had the shortest pathlength with respect to the number two.
